KNITTER & Crocheter

WHERE DID YOU IMMIGRATE FROM?

I did not immigrate to Chicago willingly but came as a Bosnian refugee 17 years ago.

WHY DO YOU KNIT/CROCHET?

I have a passion for creating things with my hands. Crocheting and knitting is what relaxes me and has always been a part of my everyday life. And it’s a way that helps me cope with the horrors of war I experienced.

KNITTER, Crocheter, & stone jewelry maker

WHERE DID YOU IMMIGRATE FROM?

I am second-generation. My mother and grandmother have lived in Chicago for the last 20 years.

WHY DO YOU KNIT/CROCHET?

I first learned the art of knitting from my mother during my youth. Ever since then, I had a passion for knitting hats, scarves and sweaters. I consider myself an expert in creating clothing for children. And now, I find great satisfaction knitting for my own children and grandchildren. For me, knitting is a way to take a break and calm down. All four of my children know how to knit, even my son. Lastly, I make stone jewelry when I can.
